Bug is the first show I designed at the University of Illinois and was performed at the Armory Free Theatre which functions in association with Illinois Theatre. This was my first time designing in a studio space and the show was staged in the round. Bug is a story of paranoia, delusion, and above everything else love. My main goal throughout the show was to use lighting to help demonstrate their descent into insanity. I tried to achieve this through saturation of colors. outside of a few surreal moments and a movement piece in Act I, I tried to keep the lighting fairly realistic and then incorporate more colors, and more saturated colors as they both fell into the delusions. The space was a bit difficult to work with; the fixture inventory was very limited and many were not kept in good condition and the paperwork for the rep plot of the space was not accurate. There was also very limited time in the space and only myself and one other person working on hang/focus, but I believe I did the best I could considering time, labor, and resources.
