Our Town is the first show I worked as Lighting Designer where there were no other students experienced in lighting design to use as resources throughout the process. The director decided that to fully immerse the audience in the story the actors would be sitting in the house, making entrances through the aisles, and primarily acting on the apron and in the pit. Working in a space with limited front-of-house space for lights and circuits presented many challenges. My Head Electrician and I had to work together to find creative solutions to get power to all of the fixtures in the front of the house. The show has great contrast between the very realistic everyday scenes shown in Acts One and Two compared to the graveyard and flashbacks to memories of Act Three.
